Becky and Bevy discuss the Gertrude Baniszewski case. In 1965, Lester and Elizabeth Likens decide to go work for the traveling carnival to make ends meet, before they leave, they arrange for their daughters Sylvia, 16, and Jenny, 15, to be taken care of by their neighbor, Gertrude Baniszewski. They are willing to pay her $20.00 per week to take care of their girls while they are away. Gertrude promises that she will treat the two girls like they are her own children, and for the first two weeks it would seem that she was making good on that promise. But when the Likens money shows up a day late Gertrude punishes Sylvia and Jenny. Unfortunately, this would begin three devastating months for the girls that would lead to a terrible outcome.
